David Michael Peters

David Michael Peters, age 82, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. David was born on April 17, 1938 in Columbus, Ohio to Merrill L. and Ruth E. Peters. David retired from the Columbus Dispatch and would be better known to his colleagues as "Handrail". He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Knight's of Columbus and a mentor with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. David will be remembered for his inspiration, courage and resilience. He had a delightful sense of humor and always put his family before himself. David enjoyed swimming, dancing and his four-legged friends. He was proud volunteer at Doctors Hospital and he also volunteered at the Ohio Wildlife Center. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim and Dick Peters; and sister, Barbara Grinsted. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane E. Peters; children, Tess (Wayne) Coakley, Renee Carmean and Andrew Peters; grandchildren, Keith (Ciera), Kevin, Kyle, Kaleb, Michelle (Chris) and Hailey; great granddaughter, Braelynn; beloved dog, Luke; sister, Diane Peters; many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial visitation will be held Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 5-7 pm at Heart and Hope Funeral Home by Schoedinger, 3030 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 12, 2021 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 434 Norton Road, Columbus, Ohio with Celebrant Fr. Leo Connolly officiating with inurnment to follow at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23453. The funeral home is still under the restriction of 25 visitors in the room at one time.
