David P. Spychalski, age 51, passed away at The Ohio State Medical Center after having a courageous and determined battle with cancer. Born November 5, 1964 in Salem, MA, he graduated from Cave Spring High School, Roanoke, VA class of ’82 and then earned his undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from the University of Virginia in 1986. David went on to work for Price Waterhouse, and his career path led him to Nationwide Insurance where he became VP of Finance for the Property and Casualty Division. As an avid sports fan, David will live on in every UVA, Ohio State, Patriots, and Red Sox game, cheering and badgering the refs. When thinking back on the life he lived, the people he touched will fondly remember the larger than life quality he possessed. Between his room shaking laugh, often from winning a game of poker or nailing some song lyrics, to his love for vacation with those who were closest to him, he will be remembered as a man who loved life and loved making those around him love life as well.
David is survived by his parents, Chester and Janice (Regan) Spychalski; fiancé, Jill Adkins; children, Madison (Ryan) Reyes, Sheridan, Griffin, Pearson, Peyton, Darden; siblings, Laura (Matthew) Gurczynski, Derek (Amy) Spychalski; nephews, Owen and Graeme Spychalski and Matthew and Colton Gurczynski; mother of his children, Joanna (Shaner) Spychalski; and Jill’s son, Max Adkins.
