

Donald Dale Shock (PGA), age 87, of Florida, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011. He was born July 16, 1923 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Earl and Helen Shock; also preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Germain Shock; daughter, Judy Lynn Shock; and his sister, Janet Shock Beardsley. He is survived by his daughter and caregiver, Amy Germain Shock, as well as many nieces and nephews. Don was a graduate of Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio where he won The Ohio State Boys Golf Championship. After high school, Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII and received an honorable discharge in 1946. Don attended The Ohio State University where he played golf under Bob Kepler, and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Dona and Dolores lived in Bexley, Ohio. Don began his career at the Columbus Country Club as an assistant golf professional for 10 years, and then as head professional for 31 years. Don was a member of the Professional Golfers Association of America for 57 years and was inducted into the SOPGA Hall of Fame in 1997. Don was known as the “Gentlemen’s Golf Professional”, a great player and a knowledgeable golf instructor. A Celebration of Life and memorial service will be held at 2pm, Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Bexley United Methodist Church, 2657 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43209. Following services, a reception will be held for family and friends at the Columbus Country Club, 8831 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43213.
