Edith Irene Hackworth

Edith (Doll) Irene Hackworth, passed away at her home on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the age of 80. She was born in Ronceverte, West Virginia to the late Herman S. and Elnar D. Matheney. Edith graduated from Green Brier High school in the class of 1960. She moved to the Columbus area shortly after where she has resided for over 60 years. She worked at Chemical Abstracts, Swan Hose and retired from Dyserv in Grandview as a key punch operator after over 30 years of service.

The family felt she was best described by their neighbor from a sympathy card that was sent to them: “Edith was an amazing person. She loved her family and was much loved by her family. She was a beautiful woman who was funny, gifted and talented. She worked hard, loved her flower gardens and working outside. Even when Edith was not feeling well, she would still find a way to laugh and make you laugh.”

She is preceded in death by her parents mentioned above, husband of 36 years Paul Hackworth, daughter Chris Schweikert and beloved sisters Margaret (Peggy), Nancy (Bub), Juanita (Sis) and brother Jimmy. Survived by sisters Sarah Gabbert of VA. and Catherine (Tassy) Harris of West Va.; daughters Karen Straits & Libbey Qurshi and husband Shah; Son Greg Hackworth, Son in law Randy Schweikert. Grandkids: Jordan Smith, Corie & Colton Schweikert, McKenzie & Keean Qurshi and great grandchild Jarren Cooper. Edith was also loved by many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family. We have heard “she was my favorite Aunt” more than once now which shows the genuine relationships she had with each one. She will also be missed by her dear friends Jean, Marty and Sammy.

The family found a note she had written several years ago from an obituary she read that they wanted to share here: “Think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched. For nothing loved is ever lost and she was loved so much.”

Luckily it did not.

Mom did not want a formal service, so the family will be hosting private celebrations of life to carry out her wishes. If you would like to honor her, just pull some weeds, plant some flowers, work on a home improvement project and think of her. She will be nearby.
