Edith Jane Porter

Jane died July 10, 2015 at the age of 91. She was the daughter of Frank and Edith Porter who preceded her in death, as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Frank Richard and Geraldine Porter and their two children. She is survived by Judy Davis, her cousin and care giver the past 8 years and other cousins; lifelong friend, Jeanette Sexton, PhD, and her loving, caring neighbor Virginia Giggi, RN.

Jane had a host of friends who loved her dearly and whom she enjoyed being around and spending time with. She was a member of numerous organizations and gave back to the community her entire life. Her proudest achievements were her 71 year membership of LaBelle Eastern Star, 67 year membership in the Pilot Club of Columbus, and 60 year membership in the DAR.

Jane was an educator. She was a professor at Bethany College, University of Delaware, The Ohio State University and also taught with the Wintersville, Ohio school system and Steubenville, Ohio School system and retired from the The State of Ohio Department of Education. She was a 1942 graduate of Steubenville High School. She was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church of Columbus and Zion United Church of Christ in Steubenville, Ohio.

SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST has been entrusted with her funeral arrangements and at her request there will be no viewing or funeral but there will be a private committal in Steubenville, Ohio at the family plot. Donations in memory of Jane may be made to the Pilot Club of Columbus in care of: Gwen Roberts, 230 Colton Road, Columbus, 43207. A memorial service will be held July 25, 2015 at 11AM at Atonement Lutheran Church, 1621 Francisco Rd, Columbus 43220. Jane wrote her own obituary. “My friends made my life very special – they will live on in the lives of others.”
