

Elizabeth A. Monahan, 54, beloved wife of Dennis E. Welch, of New Albany, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. Elizabeth was surrounded by her family and friends at the time of her death at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.
Born in Waterloo, Iowa on June 25, 1961, to Charlise and Richard Monahan, she was loved and admired by many, especially her husband of 16 years, her family and friends.
Elizabeth worked as an exercise physiologist, developing and managing health and wellness programs for several Fortune 500 companies, including Northeast Utilities (now EverSource) and Walgreens. She also was a Health Fitness Specialist for the United States Naval Station. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Iowa and a Master of Arts in Applied Exercise Physiology from San Diego State University.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Dennis and stepdaughter Danielle Welch; her mother, Charlise Monahan; brother Michael Monahan; brother Joseph Monahan and Joe’s wife Barbara Ohlund; her sister, Lynn Monahan and Lynn’s husband Charlie Couch, her nephew Dominic Monahan and niece Eva Monahan.
Elizabeth’s passion for life and well-being inspired and motivated everyone around her. She was quiet, with a witty sense of humor and a giving, kind spirit. She loved the outdoors and was an avid and accomplished sportswoman. She and Dennis could often be found on the golf course, a passion they shared.
Services will be private with immediate family only and have been entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Elizabeth’s memory to the Dennis Welch and Elizabeth Monahan Fund for Colorectal Cancer Research (Fund # 315000), at The Ohio State University Foundation, 660 Ackerman Road, 6th floor, P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, OH 43218-3112.
