Elizabeth "Ibby" Moser, 1/25/1927-1/21/2022, daughter of Edward Weil and Violet Weil Shinbach. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Paul Moser, her parents, Edward Weil, Violet and Samuel Shinbach, and sister Sue(Robert) Kaynes. Survived by her children Jeanne (Michael) Eckel, Susan (Robert) Hanflik, William (Kelly) Moser, Jr., her devoted grandchildren Andrew Hanflik and Kathy Wongsatittham, Charles and Kasha Hanflik, Michael and Sarah Eckel, Elizabeth Eckel, Megan Moser and Mary Moser, and her great grandchildren: Violet, Jack and Teddy Eckel, and Jacob, Harvey and Daniel Hanflik.
Ibby attended the Bexley Schools k-12, graduating in 1944. She was a proud graduate of OSU, and their most fervent football fan, attending games into her 90's (and tailgates), dressed in appropriate team garb. When she couldn't make the games in person, she had her own viewing parties to root her boys on to victory. Although she and Bill lived in New York and Boston, her heart was always in Columbus, and they returned to raise their family.
An avid community volunteer since her candy striper days, Ibby worked in a wide variety of settings including, but not limited to the USO, the Ohio Ave School Library, the Schoenfeld Cancer Ray, and PTAs. Her interests were as diverse as she was, including art, golf, travel, gourmet cooking, and reading at breakneck speed. She learned to fish and ski with Bill, but was happiest sitting fireside with a cup of mulled wine.
Ibby followed her mother's entrepreneurial example and established a series of small businesses with her partner in crime, Betty Wolin. She came into her own as a designer/flipper working with Bill to buy, remodel, and sell over 20 properties on Hilton Head Island, their second home. Their love of Hilton Head was shared with the entire family, and turned into yearly family reunions which continue now as the next generation flies and drives from across the country to play golf and hit the beach together.
Her true calling was as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Ibby was so close to her grandchildren that it was typical for them to call her to chat anytime or anywhere. She had endless patience, could help with Spanish homework, had a bottomless "secret" candy drawer, and was the baby whisperer. She attended multitudes of sporting events and performances with a smile and cheese/peanut butter crackers in hand. Every child and grandchild learned to cook and experience gourmet meals, and cooking advice was always only a phone call away. When the Facebook Portal came into her life, she loved being able to see an experience the next generation, even during the difficult quarantine periods. Sunday dinners were the highlight of her week, and she could always be found sitting next to her best friend, Jack.
Always a trendsetter, she was never seen without her signature Chanel No. 5 Red lipstick, her collection of eyewear, her statement necklaces and her Chicos jackets. Her loss will be felt deeply by her extended family at Chicos, Mr. Wok, and Amazon customer service. A special thank you to Jackie Brooks and Dorethea Miller for making her last days so much easier.
Donations may be made on her behalf to the Mid- Ohio Food Bank and to Temple Israel Religious School Fund.
