

Ernest L. Spencer, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at St. Ann’s Hospital. He was born in Ashville, Ohio, on August 18, 1928, to the late Floyd E. and Sylvia B. (Looker) Spencer. Ernie attended Linden McKinley High School and served our country in the US Army in Korea. He retired as a sign maker for The Artglo Co. and also previously worked for the Harr Sign Company and Frank’s Bar. Ernie’s first love was fishing, especially at Hoover Reservoir and Alum Creek, and he also enjoyed hunting and spending time with friends at the Gillie Senior Center. He is survived by daughters, Vicki (David) Vavro and Pam (Jeff) Johnson; longtime companion, Betty Woods; siblings, Teddy (Laura) Spencer and Daphane (Tim) Steig; sister-in-law, Faith Spencer; grandchildren, Gregory and Christian Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Spencer; and brother, Earl Spencer. A memorial service in honor of Ernie will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road, where family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service from 2-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, 2045 Morse Road, Columbus, Ohio 43229.
