

Ethel completed nurses training at St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago, IL and worked as a nurse at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, IL. She completed her Bachelor’s in Nursing from Northern Illinois University in 1967, her Master’s in Nursing from NIU in 1969, and earned her PhD from University of Illinois in 1974. She was a professor of nursing at Northern Illinois University, Medical College of Georgia, and Georgia State University. She officially retired in 1998. She was a longtime member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Ethel had many hobbies that she enjoyed and shared. She was a talented pianist and enjoyed playing for friends at Willow Brook. She was an accomplished quilter and enjoyed knitting and needle work. Her home was always decorated with many of her works. She was a strong adversary in any card or domino game and had a tendency of dominating her family members on game nights.
Mostly, she cherished the time she shared with family and the many friends she found and kept in each place she called home.
She was preceded in passing by her husband of 67 years, Jack Curtis Tatro, her parents Florence Elizabeth Bertha (Geuther) and Carl Harry Rang, and her brother Carl Edward Rang.
Survivors include her sister Janet (David) Woertendyke, and children Audrey Lynn (John) Hall of Columbus, Ohio; Jack Stephen (Sally) Tatro of Aiken, South Carolina; and David Frederick (Randi) Tatro of Sugar Hill, Georgia. She is also survived by her grandchildren Sarah (John) Gordy, Stephen (Jessica) Tatro, Amanda Hall, Jeremy (Michelle) Tatro, Melissa Hall, Katie Tatro and great grandchildren Leah, Grace, Charlotte, Chloe, Mary Ellis, and Nathan.
