Eugene was a devoted father, brother, and grandfather whose life was defined by hard work, service, and a willingness to help others. After graduating from New Castle High School in 1963, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967, achieving the rank of Airman First Class. Following his military service, Eugene continued his education and earned an associate degree from Catonsville Community College in 1971.
Eugene spent many years working as a postal worker, a role that reflected his strong work ethic and reliability. Outside of work, he found joy in watching sports, especially cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. He also had a passion for photography and almost always had at least a disposable camera with him at family gatherings, capturing moments and memories that will be cherished for generations. Those who knew him best remember him as a loving and dependable presence—someone who showed up for others without hesitation.
He is survived by his children, Damien Bridges, Shannon Bridges, and Shonte Egwuonwu; his grandchildren, Tatiana Bridges, Iyonna Bridges, Kaydin Bridges, Ariella Egwuonwu, and Chloe Egwuonwu; and his siblings, Winne Bridges, Virginia LeSueur, and Willie Bridges. He is also survived by a larger number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Bridges and Calina (Gorden) Bridges; his brother, David Bridges; and his sisters, Katherine (Richard) Taylor, Juanita (Earl) Derry, and Geneva (Dave) Mines.
Eugene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His steady presence, generous spirit, and dedication to family will remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
