Francis O. "Frank" Hucks, Jr., 75, Columbus, passed away on February 4th from complications of neuroendocrine cancer after a 15-year battle. Born in Conway, South Carolina, Frank moved to Orlando, Florida with his family at age 14. Frank served in the US Air Force as a Russian language specialist. He then worked as a commercial general contractor in Florida and surrounding states for 20 years before he went to law school at the University of Florida, where he focused on construction law. Upon graduating with his J.D. in 1990, he and his family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he worked for several surety companies including Reliance and Liberty Mutual as senior surety counsel for major public construction projects, combining his careers in construction and law until his retirement in 2011. He dedicated himself to his family throughout his working years and beyond, always planning adventures to share, from canoeing to crabbing to cooking in the kitchen. He especially enjoyed weekends and years with family at their cabin on Fishing Creek.
In retirement, Frank volunteered as a Medicare counselor in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Columbus, where he and his family relocated in 2014. He loved his granddaughters, wood working, motorcycles, fly fishing, traveling, and most importantly Jesus Christ. He also loved his men's Bible study headed by Bill Nyland at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church at Mill Run. God bless all of you.
Frank is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carol; daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Derek Sawyer; granddaughters Ellie, Joanna, and Sally; daughter and son-in-law Elke and Steve Hannan; and sister and brother-in-law Myra and Dave Lord.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Irma, and two brothers, Buddy and Henry.
