

Gary was born in Columbus, July 20, 1955, to the late Edgar and Lucille (Scheurer) Gassin. A 1973 graduate of Upper Arlington High School, Gary went on to earn his Bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University in 1977. He was a research scientist at Battelle Memorial Institute, and retired after 29 years of service.
Gary had a zest for life and enjoyed waterskiing, snow skiing, Euchre club, travelling domestically and internationally.
Gary loved his Dublin community. He volunteered his time to the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, where he was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2019 . He was appointed to serve as a Commissioner of the Dublin Community Services Advisory Committee (CSAC), and also volunteered at the Dublin Irish Festival, Memorial and Nationwide Children's Golf Tournaments, Columbus Marathon and many more charitable events.
Gary regularly donated plasma to the American Red Cross, was a member of 100 Men Who Give a Damn, and attended Dublin Baptist Church.
Gary's caring nature was displayed in his attention to the needs of those in his life. He had a quiet strength, was dependable, funny, ornery, loyal, humble, and thorough.
Gary loved life and his family, which include his wife of 37 years, Barb Gassin, to whom he was deeply devoted; son Brett (Kathryn) Sorrells; grandchildren Cedar and Buck Sorrells; siblings Greg Gassin, Renée (Ken) Beavers, and Lisa (Bruce) Triplehorn; nieces and nephews Jennifer Flanagan, Brian (Erin) Gassin, Ken (Bekah) Gassin, Josiah (Mindy) Triplehorn, Daniel (Lorena) Triplehorn, Maria Triplehorn, and Jonathan (Lívia) Triplehorn; great nieces and nephews Jacob and Paxton Flanagan, Cami Gassin, Madison Strane, and Julia, Elliot, and Phillip Triplehorn; and good friend Tom Snide, who led Gary to Christ.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021 at SCHOEDINGER DUBLIN, 5980 Perimeter Drive, at 11AM, followed by a light reception. Visitation will take place one hour prior from 10-11AM.
