Georganna Christine Elgabri, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 10, 2026. She was born on January 22, 1941 in Long Beach, California to the late G. Leon and Christine (Carlson) Gardner.
Georganna attended Los Angeles High School, where she was active in Speech and Debate Club. She was also a member of Job’s Daughters. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from UCLA in 1964 and taught for over 30 years. She taught English as a second language to adults in Los Angeles and later Language Arts to 6th and 7th graders in Columbus Public Schools. She earned her Master’s degree in Journalism from OSU in 1972. While at UCLA, she met the love of her life, Ali Z. Elgabri, her husband of 55+ years. Theirs was a great love story.
Georganna was open-minded, independent, resilient and loving. She was an avid reader throughout her life, loved to learn about other cultures and traveled all over the world.
She was beautiful and stylish with a love for flowers, good food, piano music, her dogs and grand-dogs and leopard print. She was an incredibly kind and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend and teacher. Throughout it all, Mom taught us how to live life with grace, compassion, humor and friendship.
Georganna will be missed beyond measure by her three daughters, Amira Del Tosto (Mark), Shana Elgabri (David), Alexa Elgabri (Jon), and her six grandchildren, Dominick, Sophia, Isabella, Ava Nagiba, Esmé, and Genevieve Georganna, and her niece Soad. Also by her dear friend of over 55 years, Mara, her friends that she made over the years and her devoted caregiver and friend Anna.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the special staff at Sunrise Assisted Living in Dublin for the wonderful care they gave to our mother.
In addition to her parents, Georganna was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ali Z. Elgabri. They raised their three girls and made a beautiful life for themselves. We are eternally grateful for our loving parents.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. A private burial will be held at Union Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
