

Born July 12, 1937, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, George dedicated his life to education, public service, and community. George graduated from Wittenberg University with both a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Education. While at Wittenberg, George was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
As a classroom teacher starting in the 1960s, George was a longtime advocate for teachers through his work with the Ohio Education Association. He was later employed by the State Department of Education as Supervisor for Joint Vocational Schools, Business and Office Education.
Known for his skill in networking and his gift for conversation, George connected with people from all walks of life.
George was a longstanding Mason and member of Aladdin Shrine. As a Shriner, he enjoyed driving his Tin Lizzy in parades for the Union County Shrine Club. As an instrument-rated private pilot, he spent many happy hours soaring above the clouds.
He was preceded in death by his father, George E. Bell; his mother, Beryl (Murphy) Bell; and his sisters Donna Jean, Sara, and Marie. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Helen M. Bell (Cumming), his son Steven J. Bell, and grandchildren Caeden J., Taylor G., and Rori A. Bell, and nieces and nephews. George is remembered by many of the educators and students he mentored as well as other family and friends. He also had wonderful neighbors and enjoyed many front porch conversations.
A memorial service will be held at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, Mill Run Campus, 3500 Mill Run Dr, Hilliard, OH 43026, at 1pm on April 11, 2026. Visiting hours will be held from 12pm - 1pm with internment directly after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Upper Arlington Lutheran Church.
