

George M. Fisher, Jr, age 86, of Upper Arlington passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. A native of Akron he was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Jeanne Christine Donigan Fisher; parents Alice C. and George M. Fisher, Sr. and his son, Timothy. He is survived by his sons, Christopher and Kevin (Nora); and grandchildren, Katherine, Megan, Sophia, Jacqueline, Madeline, and Isabelle. He graduated from Akron Buchtel High School, attended the University of Puget Sound and was a graduate from the University of Akron with a degree in Business Administration. A WWII disabled veteran, he served as a combat infantryman with the 55th Armored Infantry Bn. of the 11th Armored Division earning the Bronze Star medal and Combat Infantryman’s badge as a participant in three E.T.O. battles including the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life member of the DAV as well as a member of the VFW. His business career in insurance spanned almost 50 years; serving as an investigator with Equifax, an underwriter with American Casualty (CAN), Vice President & Secretary of The Buckeye Union Insurance Co.; Asst. V.P. of Continental Insurance Cos. of N.Y.; President of The Professionals Ins. Co.; Sr. V.P. Physicians Ins. Co. of Ohio; a principal of Insurance Management Advisors and The Management Group consultants. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of Professionals Ins. Co., Kentucky Medical Insurance Co. and Proliance Ins. Co. His commitment to the industry included serving as President of the Columbus Chapter Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriters Society, service as the trustee and education committee member of The Ohio Insurance Institute, Past President of the Insurance Federation of Ohio, Vice Pres. & Secy. of The Griffith Foundation for Insurance Education continuing in retirement as a Trustee Emeritus. Civic involvement was service as a Board Member of the Alzheimer’s Assn. of Central Ohio, the Alzheimer Home Care Board and The Salvation Army. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1899 McCoy Road, Columbus, Ohio 43220, Father Michael Watson Celebrant.
