I am so sorry for the loss of your father...although I did not know him personally, I was included in the "Shire" family and know how closeknit everyone was...I am blessed to know his sons and the amazing men they have become as a credit to their loving parents...my thoughts are with all who knew and loved Mr. Monaghan in this, their time of loss...much love and prayers to all...

It is with great sympathy that I write this...Georgie, Brian and Timmy, your father is one of those 'dads on the block' you never forget. I remember Mr. Monaghan as a little one while living in Devonshire. His wonderful character in my memory, remains strong. Thinking of you all during your time of heavy hearts.

I have never not known the Monaghans.  

My earliest recollections are crossing the driveway into the yard next door where my sister and I would play, and grow-up with  George, Brian and Tim.  

I remember my father and George outside shooting the breeze and sizing up the Cardwell 'U' on Saturday mornings after mowing the lawn. My father always told me that, "George liked everyone...he didn't seem to dislike a soul", and that he was "one of the nicest people my father has known".  That seems about right to me.

Our parents didn't know how lucky we would be to buy the house next to the Monaghans.  The boys are like brothers, and Marge and George cared for us at times as a part of their family.  

I would come and say hi to George every time I came home to Ohio.  And, he always greeted me with a smile and a hug, making me feel as if I was still the little girl that grew up next door to one of the great families of my life.  I will miss seeing him.  Godspeed George....and say hi to Marge for me.

I am at a beach house on the Oregon coast teaching a group of kids to play poker around a kitchen table (with raisins and carrot sticks) - passing on the tradition I learned largely at home of the George Monaghan Sr. and his family when I learned of his passing.  Here's to the importance of tradition, our heritage, great memories that helped shape my childhood; here's to a great man of the Shire!  Holding you all in thought in prayer. 

And can someone tell how to pronounce that middle name?

 George Sr., patriarch of the Devonshire Monaghan clan, has passed on. A full Professor of Euchre, according to Hoyle. Gracious host to many Beechcrofters, who drank his beer and slept on his floor. Raised three of the Shire's most notorious sons. King of Clam Bakes and Patron Saint of Horseshoes. God Bless and RIP Big Daddy.
