

George F. Schmidt, age 91 of Upper Arlington and Worthington, founder of Schmidt’s Restaurant und Sausage Haus, passed away peacefully at home Monday, April 8, 2013. Surrounded by his loving wife Patsy and his children.
Preceded in death by his parents George L. Schmidt and Agnes (Specht) Schmidt. His first wife of 46 years Betty Jane (Didway) Schmidt and brothers Fred and Grover Schmidt, sisters Mary Kay Schmidt Ritchey, Minetta Schmidt Flanagan and step son Scott Mumaw.
He is survived by six children Susie Schmidt, Geoff (Cheryl) Schmidt, John (Jane) Schmidt, Andrew (Kate) Schmidt, Georganne (Bill) Hetrick and Sandy (Mark) Karram. Step children Lori Egbert, Vivian Mumaw, 20 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. Many loving nieces and nephews of the Flanagan, Ritchey & Schmidt families.
Graduated from Our Lady of Victory High School 1939. Attended both John Carroll University and University of Dayton. US Navy pilot in WWII Later founded and operated Scioto Lake Seaplane Base. Chairman of the board of J. Fred Schmidt Packing Co. devout Catholic, member of St. Agatha Parish.
During his life he served many charitable organizations. Past President of March of Dimes, Member of Columbus Jaycees., 50 years plus of Northwest Kiwanis, Senior member Charity Newsies, Columbus Maennechor, Past President of Ohio Meat Packers Association, Founding member of The German Village Business Association,
Co-Founders of German Village Oktoberfest. Past Member of Scioto Country Club, Marco Island Fla.,CC, Hickory Hills CC., and the Country Club of Muirfield.
George was an avid golfer and fisherman. He traveled with his sons and many close friends to fish all over the world. He loved his Buckeyes, both football and basketball. He was also a wonderful self-taught water colorist.
Friends may call from 2-8pm on Thursday April 11, 2013 at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St. Worthington, OH. 43085. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am on Friday April 12, 2013, at St. Agatha Parish 1860 Northam Rd. Columbus, Oh. 43221
