On the evening of December 20th, by his loving bride's side, George Whited took his final earthly breath. He was born December 8th, 1927 in Clarion County, PA to the late Charles and Bertha Whited. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandpa, Army Veteran, medic, carpenter, woodworker, meteorologist, design engineer - and a strong and quiet gentleman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Eugene, William, and June. His memory is left to be cherished by his wife of 67 years, Joan Edna (Stewart) Whited, also of Clarion County, PA. The two were united in marriage on August 30th, 1953 in their hometown of Rimersburg, PA. Together, they raised their three sons in Columbus, Ohio. George is also survived by his sons Greg (Kathy), Dave (Linda), and Dan; grandchildren Kevin, Michelle (John Dranschak), Matthew (Meg Howard), Kirby Burt, Tenetra (Kyle Boggs), Jacob, Eric, Alex; great-grandchildren Seth, Brayden, Eli, Keaton and Kayla. George enlisted in the US Army in 1946 and served his country as a Technical Sergeant 4th Grade, Surgical Technician. At the conclusion of his military service, he served as a meteorologist in Toledo, Ohio before joining North American Aviation as a aeronautical engineer and helped design the B1 bomber, RA-5C Vigilante, OV-10 Bronco, T-2 Buckeye, and the Hellfire missile. George earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics from St. Louis University in 1954. He instilled a love of learning in his three sons, valuing the timeless gift of education. George loved to read and discover. Everything was a teachable moment. He always questioned, pushed, and strived to learn more. Often the smartest man in the room, you would never know it by his humble actions. He was always thinking. Always perfecting. George Whited's legacy will live on through his family. An avid woodworker, he designed and built beautiful, solid wood furniture and toys for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Strangers would often comment and offer to pay him to build things for their loved ones, but George declined, saying it was a labor of love to build something special just for his family. Guests are respectfully asked to wear masks and attendance will be monitored to ensure safety for everyone attending. Family will receive friends on Wednesday December 30th, 2020 from 4-7PM at SCHOEDINGER EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5360 East Livingston Ave. A funeral service will be held Thursday December 31, 2020 at 10 AM followed by a graveside service at 11 AM at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 E Broad St. A live webcast will be available on the Schoedinger website for those who cannot attend safely.
