

Gordon W. Knight, 79 of Columbus, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Gordon was in Fremont, OH at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center preparing to spend several days putting up the large toy train layout in the Museum when he collapsed. He was born March 12, 1931 in Pittsburgh, PA, was a 1953 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh College of Pharmacy and served in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He owned and operated several pharmacies in the Clintonville area. He was active in community organizations: Presently Treasurer and Past Master of New England Lodge #4 F & AM in Worthington as well as Past High Priest of Horace W. Wright Chapter Royal Arch Masons and Scottish Rite. He was also very active at Maple Grove UMC, where he served as usher, liturgist, greeter, a chairman and member of the Stewardship Committee, and the organizer of the Toy Train Ministry. Gordon also served as President of North Columbus Civitan and Ohio Governor. Toy trains were his favorite hobby. He was President of the Great Lakes Division Train Collectors Association (TCA) for many years. Travel consumed a great deal of their time going on train excursions all over the world, river trips in the US and Europe, small ship cruises, many National Parks and motor home travel. He has visited all seven continents and countries too numerous to count. Preceded in death by his parents, William and Florence Knight. Gordon will be missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Marjorie; daughters, Jenney Josephine (Thaddeus “Chip”) Seely, Martha Eugenie (Alexander D.) Thorne, and Rebekah Marie (Scott T.) Malone; grandchildren, Amanda Elise (fiancé Jeremy Snow) and Stewart Knight Seely, Brian Geoffrey and Gregory Jonathan Thorne, and Cody Ethan and Joshua Thomas Malone; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 7 W. Henderson Rd., Columbus, where family will greet guests for one hour prior to the service. Rev. Joel Baer, officiating. Family will receive friends Friday, October 29, 2010 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm with a Masonic service at 8:30pm at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Columbus (Just South of I-270). Private inurnment at a later date at Windsor Cemetery in Mansfield. Memorial gifts may be made to Maple Grove UMC.
