

Gordon J. Schutt, age 82, of 3452 Timberside Dr., Powell, Ohio 43065 died Wednesday, December 9, 2015. He was born November 13, 1933 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Harold and Virginia (Gordon) Schutt and is also preceded in death by his brothers, James and Philip Schutt. Gordon is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet K. Schutt; and daughter, Jana (Rob) Patchen. Gordon graduated from Fostoria High School and the University of Toledo. He served his country honorably in the US Army. Gordon was a CPA. He began his career with Fruth and Co. in Fostoria, Ohio and retired from the firm as a managing partner. Gordon was a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame. He refereed high school basketball for 19 seasons and football for 35 years. He was a leader on and off the playing surface and was known for his knowledge of the rules. Gordon was selected to work more than 75 OHSAA football tournament games, including the 1996 Division III State title game. He also refereed NCAA Division III football and basketball and was Supervisor of Football Officials for the Intercollegiate Officials Association. Gordon was an avid golfer and worked as a ranger after retirement. He enjoyed Ohio State and Notre Dame football, attended many Final Four and bowl games, and was always willing to give his opinion to the TV. Gordon will be inurned at the Cedar Grove Cemetery, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana.
