

Harley Franklin "Frank" Smythe, age 89, of Columbus, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 21, 2015. He was born in Upper Sandusky, Ohio on April 22, 1925 to the late Glenn and Charlotte Smythe. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in WWII. Frank retired from General Motors Fisher Body Plant after many years of dedicated service. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church where he was a member of the choir. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and as an usher at OSU for 15 years. He also belonged to the Columbus Maennerchor. Frank enjoyed watching and playing golf, gardening, traveling, and rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Most of all Frank enjoyed time spent with family and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, John Smythe; and siblings, Paul Smythe, Jeanette Valentine, and Kenneth Smythe. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ruth "Joan" Smythe; children, Carol Smythe-Dykes and Daniel Smythe; grandson, Andrew Dykes; sisters in-law, Marion Kellner, Priscilla Smythe, and Margaret Uncapher; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 5:00PM-7:00PM at the SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio where funeral service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 11:00AM with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Mark Diemer officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Galloway, Ohio. In lieu of flowers donations may be to the American Stroke Association or the Wounded Warriors Project.
