Helen Clara Schober was a lifelong resident of Columbus Ohio. She was born in German Village May 5, 1930, to Clara and William Schober. She passed away January 10, 2026 in her home at Bickford of Bexley long term care facility. Helen was a talented artist who won a scholarship to art school while a teen. She also studied art at Ohio State after graduating from South High School in 1948. She was able to use her talents at work, notably when she was editor of Ohio Woodlands Magazine. Helen was retired from the United Steel Workers Union, and a retired federal employee. She did the crossword puzzle every day in ink. Helen was a gentle loving soul who rescued 2 dogs that each adored her. Nikki was a stray that showed up on her doorstep, and it soon became clear she had become Helen’s dog. Other dogs were happy to get out of their pens, but when Helen came to greet Spot at the pound, he glued himself to her side, and made Helen his own. It was clear who she needed to take home. Family was the pillar of Helen’s life. She lived with her parents and over time became their care giver. She lived a short walk from her sister Marguerite and niece Kathy throughout their lives, and her nephew Michael when he was growing up. Helen was predeceased by her parents, sister Marguerite Whiteman, brother William R Schober, sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Schober, and niece Kathy Whiteman. She is survived by her nephew Michael Whiteman (Nicole), great niece Sarah Long, and nephews Bruce, Rob, and Steve Schober and their children Jared, Julie, John, and Ashley. The family is grateful for the kindness, love, and care the Bickford and Vitas staff gave Helen her last 5 years.
