

Henry Charles Rumm Jr., 87, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Saturday, August 17, 2013at Elmcroft, Miamisburg, Ohio. Henry was born May 7, 1926, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Henry C. and Emily Rumm. He graduated from West Division High School in 1944 and from Marquette University in 1948 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He entered the Navy in 1953 at Yorktown, Virginia, and served as a SeaBee with the Naval Construction Battalion. ln 1955, he joined the US Naval Reserve as a Lieutenant in the Civil Engineer Corps, serving unti1 1965.
Henry was married to Mary Lenette Kenney, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1949.The couple had six children.
Henry's career as an engineer, plant manager and industrial consultant took the family to West Bend, Wisconsin; Yorktown, Virginia; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Rochester, New York; and Toledo and Columbus, Ohio. During his long career, Henry worked for Gehl Brothers, Sandia National Laboratory, Sergent and Greenleaf, Toledo Scale, and Reliance Electric, among others.
Henry loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and traveling to their various homes all over the country. His hobbies included woodworking, model shipbuilding, fishing, and genealogy. He meticulously crafted scale model ships and won numerous awards for his work. He traveled to England and Germany several times to reconnect with distant relatives and helped other genealogists research their family histories. He also enjoyed fishing trips to Panama and Lake Powell.
Henry helped organize and served as President of the International and National Association for Children with Learning Disabilities, and lobbied actively for special education programs and funding. He volunteered at the Westerville Senior Center, teaching genealogy and computer skills. He was a member of Shipwrights of Central Ohio.
Henry's family and friends will always fondly remember his abiding interest in his children and grandchildren, his fascination with tools, his love of reading, and his gift for conversation.
Survivors include his six children, John (Lyn) of Cody, WY; Peter (Ana) of Rockville, Maryland; Elizabeth (Geoffrey Hulse) Rumm of Westerville, Ohio Christopher (Mary Ann) of San Rafael, California; Margret (Dave) Miller of Centerville, Ohio; and James (Lynora) of Edinboro, Pennsylvania, as well as 15 grandchildren: Alex and Annie Rumm; Peter Rumm, Jr.; Zachary Rumm, Jack and Christopher Hulse; Wesley Rumm, Travis and Rachel Mauldin; Nichole, Dan and Scott Miller; Nathan, Cameron and Jared Rumm; and many relatives and friends.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, Ohio, where his Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Private interment, Friday, at Blendon Central Cemetery, Westerville, Ohio.
