Ida L. Copenhaver Ginter, a model volunteer contributor to our community, passed away unexpectedly on December 7, 2018. Ida was born in Johnson City, Tennessee on October 19, 1945 to parents Lawrence Luther Copenhaver, Jr. and Ida Louise Wolff Copenhaver. She is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 42 years, James L. Ginter, her brother Larry Copenhaver (Samantha) and sister Octavia T. McCuean (Douglas), nieces Anne Torrey McCuean and Elizabeth Ann Copenhaver Walker, nephew Lawrence Copenhaver, and many dear friends with whom she so enjoyed sharing life. Ida graduated from Pensacola High School and then earned her B.A. in Chemistry at Agnes Scott College and M.S. in Chemistry at Emory University. She spent her professional career at Chemical Abstracts Service where she retired as Director, Editorial Coordination in 2009. Although a self-described transported Southerner, Ida was active in many not for profit organizations throughout the Columbus community and was a YWCA Woman of Achievement in 2009. She was not satisfied with being a spectator of the organizations with which she was involved. She chaired the Board of Directors or major board committees of ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, Columbus Zoological Park, Junior League of Columbus, Crichton Club, OSU Women and Philanthropy, Upper Arlington Board of Zoning and Planning, Conestoga (Ohio History Center), OWJL, Columbus Literacy Council and other organizations devoted to improving the lives of others. Family will receive friends 4-6 PM on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 E. State Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 10, 2018 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215, with a reception immediately following at The Athletic Club of Columbus. The family asks that contributions in Ida's memory be made to ProMusica Chamber Orchestra (Promusicacolumbus.org), the Columbus Zoological Park Association (ColumbusZoo.org) or a charity of your choice.
