

Jim was a 1945 graduate of Chauncey-Dover H.S. where he was the captain of the football team during their undefeated division champion season. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on his 18th birthday and served with the 53rd Seabees Battalion on construction projects for the nuclear bomb test at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands. While serving in the U.S. Naval Reserve, Jim was a training instructor at the U.S. Naval Reserve Center on the Peninsula in Columbus.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; siblings, John “Jack” Ley, Paul (Christina) Ley, Joanna Wagner, and Helen (Lew) Roberts; nieces, Diana Evans and Jacquie Lindquist; and nephew, Phil Ley. Jim will be missed by his loving children, Brenda A. Ley and James M. Ley; sister, Patricia (John) Evans; brother, Richard (Barbara) Ley; sister-in-law, Barbara Ley; brother-in-law, Robert Wagner; nieces and nephews, Mike Ley, Bob Ley, Terri Whitlatch, Chuck Ley, David Ley, Cathy Ley, Karen Wild, Mark Wagner, Diane Hiratsuka, Rick Wagner, Gail Coe, Kelly Tritipo, Suzanne McElfresh, Steve Ley, and John Ley; and their families.
Family will receive friends Friday, February 8, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 4 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1051 S. Waggoner Rd., Reynoldsburg, Msgr. David Funk, Celebrant. Entombment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
