James Shough, 83, passed away peacefully on February 14th at Kobacker House in his birthplace of Columbus, Ohio. Jim was preceded in death by his father Jack Gordon Shough, his mother Frances Horstmann Shough, and his brothers John and Jere. He is survived by Sally, his loving wife of 61 years; by his six children, Jim (Michele) with grandchildren Andrew (Megan) and Addie and great-grandson Oliver; Jackie (Carl) Garbarino; Jeanne (Marty) Majka with grandchildren Trenton and Jenna; Jon (Lisa) with grandchildren Jack, Alec, Cassady, and Nik; Julie (Wayne) Thomas with grandson Jackson; and Jason (Katie) with granddaughters Emmy and Charlotte; by his siblings Janice (Charles) Hays and Jeff (Sue); and by his sisters-in-law Janie Shough, Charlene (Paul) Pardi, Pat Pieper S.N.D., and a chorus of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Faith and family were foundational to Jim's life. He was a loving husband and father, a devoted parishioner at St. Andrew Catholic Church (and lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus), a tireless supporter of his children and grandchildren on and off the field, a proud member of the Columbus Maennerchor, and a disciplined genealogist who spent years tracing the family's roots through past generations. In retirement, Jim's passion for history and pride in his country led him to join the Sons of the American Revolution, where he served a term as Benjamin Franklin chapter president.
Born in 1938, Jim graduated from Grandview Heights High School in 1957. He studied and taught at Columbus College of Art and Design, and worked for more than 60 years as an illustrator and commercial artist. Outside of his home studio, Jim loved music, photography, and traveling with his wife and kids - often to the beach or the mountains, always with his Nikon camera in hand.
Calling hours will be held at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Sunday, Feb. 20 from 2-5 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Monday, Feb 21 at 11 am. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim's name to the Kobacker House and/or make checks payable to the St. Andrew KofC Council #11275 for Christmas Baskets for OLG.
