Jane Feely Fisher passed away on July 24, 2023. She had 93 wonderful years living and laughing with family and friends. She grew up in Detroit with four sisters. She was a graduate of the Sacred Heart Academy and attended University of Detroit.
Jane’s first marriage ended with the death of Jack Blinstrub. After five years, in a leap of unparalleled faith, she and her son, John, married Jack Fisher and his four children—joining two families. Very few people (especially in their 20s) start marriage with five children. She saved all of us. She moved to Columbus in 1958, but kept her strong ties to Detroit.
A staunch Catholic, Jane was a member of St. Agatha parish for more than 60 years. Jane raised all five children with a love of travel, belief in the importance of education and ethics, and a love of reading and literature. She enjoyed so many activities including bridge, theater, music and gardening.
Both Jane’s wit and kindness are legendary. She was the originator of the family love of tablescapes and she really knew how to throw a party. Her sense of direction, both on the road and in life, was perfect—she guided her family through life and on family road trips with unerring precision.
She is survived by her five children, Rick Fisher (Wezie) of Chicago; Christopher (Christine) of Columbus; John Fisher of New York City; Linda of Washington D.C.; Martha of Columbus. Jane has seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by wonderful sister, Barbara O’Brian of Concord, MA; sister-in-law Iris LaJoie of Sarasota, FL, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends of all ages.
Donations in her memory may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice. There will be a funeral mass celebrating her life on Saturday, July 29 at 11 AM, St. Agatha. Calling hours will be immediately prior from 10-11 at the church. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulcher cemetery, Detroit, on Monday, July 31 at 11 AM.
