Jane Lyn Ramsey Walther, age 77, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away on January 23, 2019. She was born on February 16, 1941, in Wellston, Ohio, to the late Howard Gooding Ramsey and Jean Kathryn (Neary) Ramsey.
Jane is survived by, and will be greatly missed by her sons, Sean Philip Walther and his wife, Kathy of New Albany, Ohio; Andrew William Walther and his wife, Ann of Pataskala, Ohio; and Matthew Brady Walther of Doylestown, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren William Walther, Roger Walther, Meghan Walther, Kaelyn Walther, Maggie Walther, Phillip Walther, George Walther, and Alex Walther; her brother David Ramsey and his wife, Linda of Gahanna, Ohio; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her beloved cat, Bella. Jane is also survived by many close friends, colleagues, and mentees, all of whom she impacted in different meaningful ways during her life's journey.
Jane grew up in Wellston, Ohio, and maintained close friendships with her Wellston friends, most infamously, "The Naughty Nine." She moved to Columbus, Ohio, in the summer of 1957 and graduated from Grandview Heights High School in 1959. Jane was a life-longer learner. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from The Ohio State University in 1965 and was also a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Jane subsequently earned a Master of Arts from The Ohio State University in 1988 and a Master of Business Administration from Spring Hill University in Mobile, Alabama, in 1996.
Jane's professional career reflected her diverse interests as well as her passion for community service and academics. She worked as a legislative staff assistant for Ohio Senator Frank Lausche, administrative assistant for state of Ohio Auditor Roger Cloud, probation officer with the Franklin County Municipal Court, director of career services at both Emory and Henry College in Emory, Virginia, and Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, college counselor at the American School of Milan, Milan, Italy, and a Human Resource consultant at her own company, JRW Corporate Resources. Most recently, Jane worked with her son, Andy, providing administrative support to his companies. In addition, she tutored several local immigrant children, helping them adapt to the US education system.
Jane fully enjoyed life and had many hobbies. She was an avid reader and could frequently be found at the Columbus Metropolitan Library. She loved having a glass (or two) of red wine and anything chocolate. She also enjoyed traveling, playing golf, baking, and cheering on the Buckeyes. Jane was active in her community and served as an elected Gahanna City Council Member and Chairman for the League of Women Voters. She was involved with the Gahanna TWIG 105 and Stonybrook United Methodist Church in Gahanna and supported numerous charities.
Above all, Jane's greatest joy was her family. She was a dedicated Mother, Daughter, Sister, and Aunt, but her most treasured role was being a Grandmother. Gee, as she was most affectionately known to her 8 Grandchildren and their friends, frequented soccer fields, dance studios, and all sorts of school functions and extracurricular activities. She never missed a birthday or holiday and was infinitely proud of them all.
Family will receive friends from 4-7 pm on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230; where a service will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Columbus Metropolitan Library (www.columbuslibrary.org/ ) or the Columbus Humane Society (www.columbushumane.org/ ).
