Jo Anne Harker, 86, passed away on May 31, 2020. She was born on February 10, 1934 in New Moorefield, Ohio to Reverend Dr. Edward S. and Willene (Palmer) Wones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved sisters Jean Faulkner and Jane Wilson.
Jo was a proud graduate of Miami University, where she met the love of her life, Tom. She remained extremely loyal to Miami, and belonged to the Miami Alumni Association, Recruitment Network, and was a member of the Board of the Alumni Association. She used her degree in education as a kindergarten teacher for several years before leaving to take care of her growing family.
To say Jo was an active person would be an understatement. She was involved in whichever town she and Tom were in. She was involved in AAUW, the Methodist church, sang in the church choir, volunteered at the library, and did anything needed to make sure her family was taken care of. Jo was an avid reader and loved keeping up on the Royal Family and their history – a love she got from her older sister Jean. She and Tom loved to travel and take cruises all over the world.
Jo will be greatly missed by her best friend and husband of 63 years, Thomas A. Harker; children, Thomas A. Harker, Jr. and Kimberly A. (Christopher) Brooks; and her much doted on grandchildren Morgan, Carson, Alli, and Cole.
A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Friday, June 5, 2020 at the Elmhurst Park Cemetery, 32787 Detroit Road, Avon, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation in Jo’s memory to her beloved Miami University: Harker Family Endowment, care of the Miami University Alumni Association, 725 East Chestnut, Oxford, OH 45056.
