

John Noah Calhoun, born April 1, 1939 passed away February 21, 2017. He was the son of the late Thomas O. and Miriam (Pennebaker) Calhoun. John served as Sunday School superintendent, Deacon, Elder and guest soloist with the choir at Riverside Presbyterian Church, Wellsville, OH. He graduated in 1956 from Wellsville High School and attended Muskingum College with an Associate's degree from Kent State University. John worked 25 years with the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services and 10 Years with U.S. Office of Personnel Management giving ASVAB tests throughout northeast Ohio. John was a longtime member of Wellsville Lodge #180 FandAM, three times past master. He also was involved with East Liverpool York Rite and Steubenville Scottish Rite, where he held several offices. John received the Valley Service Award and 33rd Degree Mason, receiving the degree in Grand Rapids, MI in 2005. John also served as a Weblos Scout leader, Chapter Dad of the former George T. Wilson, Chapter Order of DeMolay, and Band Booster for Wellsville High School. He was an active member of Crystal Chapter Order of Eastern Star, East Liverpool, and a past patron and Drill Director of the Grand Chapter, of Ohio, and an Associate Chartering Director of the Masonic Learning Center for Dyslexia in Steubenville. He was a founding member of Potter Players Community Theater, participating in several productions. John sang one time with Mendelson Choir at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, PA., and was known throughout the East Liverpool area for his singing talent. John married the love of his life, Esther May Bryan on July 27, 1965. He is survived by sons, Bryan (Melody) of Columbus and Sean of Columbus; grand daughters, Misti Hatfield (friend, Charles Baily), Heather Hatfield (friend, Gary Perkins), grandson; Andrew Robinson of Columbus, and Great Grandson; Logan Perkins, all of Columbus; and Pets: Daisy, Keah, and Callie. Preceded in death by parents, his daughter Heather, and daughter in law Lorrie Hughes Calhoun. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in honor of John to: The 32nd Masonic Learning Center for Dyslexia, 227 North 4th St. Steubenville Ohio 43952. A Masonic Service will be held at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St. Worthington OH Saturday February 25, 2017 at 1:30pm, a funeral service will directly follow at 2pm.
