

John E. Kerber, age 95, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018. Originally from Sandusky, Ohio. After high school at the age of 17, John enlisted in the US Navy. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii aboard the USS Nevada when it was attacked by the Japanese on December 7, 1941. Subsequently and for the remainder of WWII he served aboard the USS St. Louis earning a commendation during a Kamikaze attack which killed several of his shipmates. This occurred in the vicinity of Leyte Gulf, Philippine Islands. Retired from General Motors after 36 years. Preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn; daughter, Joan Reeb; son-in-law, Steve Sheridan. Survived by children, Charlie (Joyce), Tom (Mari), Beth Sheridan, Andy (Amy); grandchildren, Tracy (Nate) Wiczer, Jessica Reeb and Tyler Kerber; son-in-law, Larry Reeb; brother, Gene Kerber, his nieces and nephews. Mom and Dad were members of St. Aloysius Church for many years. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2165 W. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43223. Family will receive friends from 9:30 -10:30 am on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Our Mother of Sorrow Chapel in St. Joseph Cemetery. Military honors will be held at 10:00 am with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 am.
