

John R. Lenihan, 85, of Columbus, Ohio, passed peacefully in his sleep, on November 4, 2019, after a long battle with Dementia, Parkinson's, and kidney disease. Born on July 12, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Raymond and Ernestine Lenihan.
John spent four years serving his country in the U.S Navy from 1953-1957 during the Korean War. After which he served his community from 1962-1987 on the Columbus Police Department; where he became a helicopter pilot starting in 1987. Succeeding his retirement from the Police Department, John returned to work in Columbus Code Enforcement from 1988 until 2000, when he officially retired.
Preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Daniel (Mary) Lenihan, Joseph (Nancy) Lenihan, Richard Lenihan, James Lenihan, and Eileen (Stephen) Stevenson.
Survived by his loving wife, Penelope Lenihan; children, Michael Lenihan, Laura Fox, Lisa Hall, Kevin (Erica) Lenihan, Beth (Victor) Cottrell; grandchildren, Miranda, Megan (Derek) Farwick, Erin Moore and Erica Moore, Nicholas Fox, Mathew Hall, Ryan (Chelsea), Kyle, Connor, and Trevor Lenihan, Erik and Alexis Cottrell; great-grandchildren, Mason, Logan, Aubrey, Sydney, Andrew, and Alexander; sisters-in-law, Anne and Carolyn Lenihan; and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 4-7 pm on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Heart and Hope by Schoedinger, 3030 West Broad Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, November 8, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 584 W Broad St, Columbus, OH 43215.
Special thanks to Columbus Alzheimers Care Center for the phenomenal care provided to John in the last year of his life, treating him just like family. Thank you to Bella Hospice for making his last two weeks a peaceful easy journey home.
