John Delbert Zimmer

John D. Zimmer, age 82, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018. He was born on May 9, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Leroy Edward Zimmer and Sarah Lucille (Armstrong) Zimmer. John was a graduate of Westerville High School, Antioch College where he earned a bachelor's degree, and Kent State University where he earned a Master of Business Administration degree. He was a lifelong learner, educator, and scholar of aerospace, electronics, and philosophy with a hungry open mind. John embodied the definition of a true renaissance man. He enjoyed gardening, camping, hiking, and was an avid reader. John was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church since 2004. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Ann (Don) Asman and Judy (Richard) Spurgeon. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Madelyn (Weihl) Zimmer; three daughters, May (J.R.) Zimmer-Fannin, Anita (Jim) Albert, and Deidre Zimmer; grandchildren, Rebecca Albert and Brenden Albert. Family will receive friends 12:30 pm until 1:00 pm the time of service on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1555 S. James Rd, Columbus, OH 43227. Reception to follow. John was laid to rest at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway. Arrangements entrusted to Schoedinger East Chapel.
