

Keith Kavinsky, age 47, of Dublin, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, from complications due to ALS, commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” He was born in October of 1966 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Raymond and Carole (Russo) Kavinsky and was raised in nearby Boardman, Ohio. His childhood was filled with love and kindness from his parents, his sister Carrie (Kavinsky) Hazen, and many lifelong friends. He is survived by his wife, Corrine; children, Katherine and Andrew; parents, Raymond and Carole Kavinsky; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sandy and Bill Carman; sister, Carrie (Jason) Hazen, and sister-in-law, Christine (Tom) Ostasiewski; four nieces and nephews and many loving friends, caregivers, all of whom Keith cherished. As a youngster, he developed an affinity for coffee, ice cream and sports. Keith was a 1985 graduate of Boardman High School where he was a three-year starter on the baseball team and a co-captain of the football team during his senior year. He was a 1989 graduate of Wittenberg University where he was also a member of the baseball and football teams. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School in 1992 where he was a member of the Order of the Curia. In August of 1995, Keith married Corrine Carman, formerly of Wheeling, WV. Later that same month, Mr. Kavinsky, and his mentor and friend, Terry Gallagher, formed a new law firm which would become known as Gallagher & Kavinsky, LPA. He was a commercial litigator until his retirement in September of 2013 due to the progression of his disease. During his legal career, he has the pleasure of working with many caring individuals and met a wide variety of clients, many of whom Keith considered to be his friends. Keith and Corrine welcomed their daughter Katherine into the world in 1998 and their son, Andrew, in 2001. Keith enjoyed spending time with his family and was extremely passionate about coaching a variety of youth sports teams in which his children participated. In addition to his coaching activities, he enjoyed running and family vacations at the beach. Prior to his illness, he was an active member at Indian Run United Methodist Church in Dublin, Ohio. Keith was diagnosed with ALS on August 1, 2011 and battled the disease through participation in a number of research studies to assist scientists and doctors in trying to find an effective treatment for ALS. During his ALS journey, Keith was blessed to have the support of numerous family members, friends, and caregivers. The family would like to recognize the entire team at Zusman Hospice, along with special caregivers, Sandy Carman (mother-in-law), Tyra Phillips, and Mariah Fowler. While Keith’s ALS journey ended, his resilient spirit and profound sense of humor will always be remembered in the hearts and lives he touched along the way. Friends may call 4-8 pm Monday, September 15, 2014 at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 North High St. (1/2 mile south of I-270). A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Indian Run United Methodist Church, 6305 Brand Rd., Dublin, OH 43016, where family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service.
