Ken is survived by his loving wife Kim Ekelberry and her family; son Kyle (Veronica) Haertling and grandson Liam Haertling, son Karl (Erin) Haertling, Lynn (David) Schroeder, mother of Kyle and Karl; brothers Paul "Greg" (Kathie) Haertling, Theodor (Wanda) Haertling; sisters Lauren (George) Taubenheim, AnnElisa Haertling Maclam; and many other beloved family members and devoted friends.
Ken obtained a Bachelor of Arts from The Ohio State University in 1972 and retired as a manager from Ohio Transmission Corporation in 2020 after 30+ years.
Ken was a lover of history, was well read and was an eloquent writer. He was an outdoorsman with a love of hunting and fishing, with much of his free moments spent contemplating his time at various Ohio lakes, his cabin in Southern Ohio, and especially his most cherished lake, Lake Champlain in NY/VT. Most of his childhood, before residing in Westerville, Ohio, was spent living in upstate NY in Keeseville and on the Air Force Base in Plattsburgh, NY. Much of his adulthood was spent vacationing with his wife in NY/VT to relive those fond childhood memories. Other interests were indulging in B-movies and an eclectic variety of music, loving on his cats, exasperating his coworkers with a variety of pranks, visiting with friends, motorcycling, engaging in general foolishness and getting into mischief. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing these interests with his sons, wife, family and friends. His unique observations and comments will be missed, and the world is a much more ordinary place without him.
A visitation for Ken will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 3:00-5:00 PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230. A memorial service will immediately follow at 5:00 PM.
