

Leonard L. Artis, 94 of Columbus, died peacefully Tuesday January 1, 2019 at home. Len was born in Sciotoville, Ohio June 8, 1924 to the late Joseph and Dona Montgomery Artis. After graduating high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served 4 yrs. Len worked several jobs during his lifetime which included the Gas and Electric Company, U.S. Playing Card Co and Shillitos in Cincinnati, Williams Shoe Company, N&W Railroad in Portsmouth, The Equitable Life Insurance Co of DC and finally the U.S. Post Office which he retired from in 1984. He was a dedicated member of Karl Road Baptist Church for over 30 years and a Gold Card recipient and life member of NALC-Buckeye Branch 78. Len was a man of great faith most of his life. He was very knowledgeable of the Bible and devoted a lot of time reading and sharing his beliefs with others, especially after retirement. He worked hard at whatever he did with a great work ethic that was passed on to his daughters and grandchildren. He was kind hearted and generous even when times were tough for him. It was always important to share food with everyone. Len enjoyed fishing with his dad when time allowed. He was one of the oldest Cincinnati Reds Baseball fans and he followed the OSU Buckeyes Basketball and Football Teams. Pro-golf was another interest. In his younger years Len played a lot of amateur baseball. He enjoyed prime rib but never lost the taste for beans and cornbread from his youth. He also had a big sweet tooth. He used to bake different flavored 4 layer cakes from scratch. He took his family on short and cross country road trips including Cedar Point, Windsor, Ontario, New York, Indiana, Illinois, North Carolina, Nevada, California and many places in between. Len is preceded in death by his wife Lois J. Damron (2011), daughter, Barbara Lynne Artis, brothers Homer, Chester and Glenn Artis, sister V. Eloise Stevens, sons in law Felice Tiberi and Richard White. He is survived by his daughters, Marcia G. Tiberi, Judith A. (Joseph) Quint; brother, Paul E. Artis; grandchildren, Phillip (Sandra) Tiberi, Lisa (Eric) Stoker, Nathan (Katharine) White, Natalie (Anthony) Bradfield; great grandsons, Winston, Clayton, Nicholas and Dane; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Sunday 3:00pm-6:00pm at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL 6699 N. High Street Worthington, Ohio where a service will be held Monday 12noon. Reverend Joanne Blum officiating. Burial will follow at Northlawn Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Mission or Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
