

Lydia Marie (Knotek) Voss, age 91, a longtime resident of Upper Arlington, recently residing at The Forum, died peacefully on May 27, 2014. Lydia was born on June 27, 1922 in Ravenna, Nebraska to Czechoslovakian immigrants, Joseph and Ludmilla Knotek. She graduated in 1944 with a nursing degree from Chicago Hospital through Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois and joined the United States Army during World War II. Lydia was proud of her nursing profession and of her service to the country. She performed nursing duties at Percy Jones Army Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan where she cared for many wounded soldiers including her future husband, John. Lydia was active with her children in Boy and Girl Scouts. She used her knowledge of medicine during her employment as a medical transcriptionist at Doctors Hospital and with Internal Medicine Consultants in Columbus, Ohio. She was a dedicated volunteer with numerous organizations and also enjoyed the many relationships that she formed while exercising at Sawmill Athletic Club. Lydia was especially proud of her relationships with her grandchildren. She was called "Grandma" affectionately by many of their friends and she faithfully attended their sporting events where she was often seen passing out her famous brownies. Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, her 2 sisters and her husband John. She is survived by her 5 children: John (Julie) Voss of Seneca, South Carolina; Kristi (Peter) Johnston of Dublin, Ohio; Lance (Yvonne) Voss of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Robin Bennett of Columbus, Ohio; and Jodi Haas of Bridgewater, Virginia. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren including Amy (Lane) Estes, Jud Johnston, Erin Voss, Stephanie Voss, Kevin Voss, Ray Haas, Sara Haas and 3 step grandchildren as well as 3 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Dublin Community United Church of Christ, 81 W. Bridge St. Rev. Robert Tussing officiating.
