

Marshall Truxton Barney, age 68 of Upper Arlington, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016. Marshall was born and raised in Burlington, Wisconsin, son of the late Lee and Ruth Barney. Marshall graduated from Bradley University. In 1978, he began the Barney Corp., specializing in designing, manufacturing, and distributing Air and Liquid Filters. Marshall was a true entrepreneur. He was creative, hardworking and was always ahead of the curve when it came to business. With the internet increasing in popularity, in 1999, Marshall started Filters.com, an online business which enabled him to grow into many different marketplaces. Along with being a great businessman, Marshall was also a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor who had the ability to bring people in and make them feel special. He was a member of the Conway Family Business Group and a longtime active member of First Community Church where he enjoyed Couples Circle #47. In addition, Marshall enjoyed traveling, gardening and was an avid reader. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Virginia “Ginny” Barney; children, Joy Barney and Brad (Shirley) Barney; granddaughter who referred to him as “Poppy”, Lilly; siblings, Barbara (Bill) Schoenwetter, Cissy Barney, Lance (Judy) Barney, Hunter (Loretta) Barney, and Becky Franks; mother-in-law, Iola “Tommie” Lanaman; brother-in-law Rick (Kate) Lannamann and many other extended family members and dear friends. A service celebrating Marshall’s life will be held at 3:30pm Friday, August 5th at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., with a reception immediately following service.
