Marvin Lee Hill passed away on December 26, 2014, at the age of 68, after battling cancer. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, grew up in Kettering and lived most of his life in the Columbus area of Ohio. He also resided in Scottsdale, Arizona for several years, but considered Columbus home. Marv graduated from Fairmont High School in Kettering, attended Michigan State University, transferred to The Ohio State University, graduating with a B.A. Degree. He became a well respected realtor and residential home builder, establishing Marhill Builders, Inc. Many who live in the Muirfield area have lived in or seen homes that Marv built.
Marv was known by most as a golfer, but loved many hobbies…tennis, golf, snow skiing, boating, and dancing, excelling in each of these. For several years Marv owned boats which he kept at Lake Erie. Fishing for Walleye, cruising the lake, and embracing the friendships which came with it, were a great joy to him. Marv was a man who liked to tease and make people laugh, a trait he learned from his father. He also enjoyed a good martini.
Marv was known as "Pops" to his kids and grandkids and he was there for them during difficult times. Marv deeply loved those he cared about and had a faith in Jesus which held him during the challenges of life. A widely shared sentiment among Marv's family and friends is his care and concern for them. He personified selflessness, always helping others without being asked. An organization near and dear to his heart was Solace For The Children.
Marv was preceded in death by his father, Richard Hill, and his mother, Wilma Jean Hill. He is survived by his brother Mel (and his wife Sherry), five step children, and a number of grandkids and cousins.
Marv will be greatly missed by friends and family alike. So many were there for Marv during his final months of life, but a special thanks is expressed to Merry and Joel McCuen for the love and care given to Marv. We would also like to express our thanks to Heartland of Dublin, who provided excellent care for Marv in his final days.
A memorial service celebrating Marv's life will be held on January 31, 2015, at 1:00 p.m., at New Hope Church, located at 4739 W. Powell Road, Powell, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, we would ask you consider a donation to an athletic scholarship fund currently being established by Marv's friends, in his name, to give a student athlete of Fairmont High School an opportunity to attend college. Specific information will be available shortly. Anyone interested in contributing to the scholarship fund should contact Marv's brother, Mel Hill, at (559) 430-7314.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Schoedinger Northwest Chapel.
