Mary Lorena Maxwell

Mary L. Maxwell, (nee Stoots) age 93, died peacefully at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, OH on May 30, 2017, after a brief illness. She was born Mary Lorena Stoots in Pulaski, VA, November 9, 1923. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey R. and Florence M. (nee Hoback) Stoots; her brother, Robert B. Stoots; her first husband, George R. Duncan, and her nephew, Richard N. Maxwell. She moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she met and married Walter E. Maxwell in 1967. They resided in Clintonville for most of their married life. Mary was a homemaker and loving wife and caregiver to her husband, who died in 1995. Mary is survived by her step-daughter, Linda Maxwell (Charlie) Yund, Grand Island, NY; her nieces, Kathryn Reeder (Richard) Maxwell, Upper Arlington, OH, and Iva Sue (Michael) Gilley, Patrick Springs, VA; cousin, Isabel Jones, Wytheville, VA; and special friend and caregiver, Karen Lanning, Columbus, OH. We will remember Mary for her positive outlook on life and sweet nature. The family would like to thank the staff of Riverside Methodist Hospice and Palliative Care for the respectful, supportive, and tender care provided to Mary and her niece, Kathryn. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in memory of Mary Maxwell to Creative Living (supportive, independent-living apartment community for physically disabled individuals), 150 West 10th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43201. A memorial service will be held at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, OH 43221, on Friday, June 16, 2017, 11:00 am. Visiting hours from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. will precede the service officiated by Pastor George Hattenfield (pastor emeritus, Linworth Baptist Church). A graveside service will immediately follow at Old Union Cemetery.
