

Matthew Alexander McClung, 39, passed away May 27, 2018. He entered this life March 8, 1979, in Columbus, Ohio, the third son born to Dr. H. Juhling and Helen P. McClung. He attended Evangel Christian Academy, Gahanna-Lincoln High School and graduated from Grand River Academy. Matthew furthered his education at Otterbein University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He was passionate about history, spending countless hours reading books and watching movies. He will be remembered most for his love of literature, pleasure in music, gentleness with animals and children, his keen sense of humor and joy in family occasions and holidays, as well as his skills as a photographer and writer. He was a talented welder and metal worker. Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Dr. H, Juhling McClung; paternal grandparents, Alexander Keith McClung and Florence Juhling McClung; maternal grandparents, Bernard William Peters and Ruth Inez Gabbert Peters. He is survived by his devoted mother, Helen P. McClung; brothers, William J. McClung and Andrew P. McClung; uncles and aunts, A. Keith McClung II (Sandra Foley McClung) of Baltimore, MD, William Bernard Peters (Mary Beth Dana Peters) of Vienna, WV; cousins, Alexander K. McClung (Brenda Olds McClung) and Martha Ellen McClung of Baltimore, MD, Kathryn Ann Peters of Denver, CO as well as Christopher Peters of CO, Weston McClung of MD, Madelyn McClung and Spencer McClung of Eldensberg, MD; aunt Mrs. Edward Gabbert and cousin Lucy Ann Deem of Williamstown, WV. Family will welcome friends 6-8pm Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230 where the funeral service will take place at 10am Thursday, May 31, 2018; interment to follow at Jefferson Twp. Cemetery; Rev. Steve Resch and Rev. Ron Lokhorst officiating. In his lifetime, Matthew had many pets and rescued many animals, ranging from dogs and cats to ferrets, gerbils, rats and mice. He leaves behind his cat, Tony.
