

Melanie Jane Sproul Kennedy, MD, age 83, died from Alzheimer's disease on December 13, 2025. She was born on October 21, 1942 to Clellah Stotts Sproul and James Sproul. Melanie graduated from Ohio Northern University and the College of Medicine at the Ohio State University. She became board-certified in Blood Banking and Clinical Pathology and was Medical Director of the American Red Cross's Central Ohio Region for several years. Melanie then joined the Clinical Pathology department at the Ohio State University and ran the Apheresis lab for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Terry Sproul and his son David (Crystal) and Genelle Armstrong. Melanie is survived by her husband, Leroy Witzel, her stepson Kyle (Sara Graham), step-grandchildren Peyton and Jayla Graham and stepdaughter Kaylee Witzel, her daughter Melita (Colin Childs) Kennedy and grandchildren, Caelin and Simon Kennedy-Childs, her sister-in-law Carole Sproul, nephew Scott Sproul and great-niece Shelby Sproul, her brother-in-law Jack Armstrong, niece Jennifer (Robert) Sturgill and their daughter Kelsey, nephew Jonathan (Sheri) Armstrong and his daughter Scarlet.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choosing would be appreciated.
