She was born to Thayer “Doug” and Martha (Rhodes) Douglas on September 6th, 1932 in Charleston, West Virginia where she spent her childhood. When she was 18 years old, she married her high school sweetheart Walter Maynard Sharp, with whom she had her two children, Stephanie Fraim and Douglas Sharp.
A devoutly Christian woman, Nancy was known for her high-energy and good-nature. She was always quick with a laugh and smile. In her youth, that energy sometimes surfaced as impish pranks on her friends and neighbors, but later fueled her success as businesswoman and entrepreneur.
In 1971 after raising her two children, she made the decision to begin a career of her own in real estate. As a Realtor, she enjoyed a great deal of success, and after having sold millions in property throughout Central Ohio, started her own real estate brokerage firm with more than 25 sales associates.
Her success and love for the Real estate business led her to the political and public policy side of the industry, becoming President of the Columbus Board of Realtors in 1990, the President of the Ohio Association of Realtors in 1997, and Director of the National Association of Realtors in 1998. She was honored for her lifetime of commitment to the profession by being inducted into the Realtors PAC Hall of Fame for her work. But, according to Nancy, her greatest accomplishments came from the fact that she truly loved helping people purchase their homes and the knowledge that she had helped them and they were happy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Patricia A. Douglas, Jenny L. Burtnett, and brother Lt. Col. Richard “Bud” T. Douglas. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years Dr. Walter M. Sharp, her two children Stephanie (John) Fraim and Douglas (Julie) Sharp, her
five grandchildren Stephen (Megan) Sharp, Andrew Ullman, Sarah Ullman, Daniel Sharp, and Ryan Sharp, and her yet-to-be-named great-grandson who is expected in May of this year.
Friends may visit on Monday, April 4th at the New Albany Presbyterian Church, 5220 Johnstown Road New Albany from 4-7PM where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 5th at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Nancy to The Lettuce Work Foundation at www.lettucework.org. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST.
