Oscar L Thomas

Oscar L. “Tommy” Thomas, Jr., age 85, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012. Oscar was born July 17, 1926 in Columbus, son of the late Oscar L. and Rita C. Thomas. He is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Alice D. Thomas. Oscar attended North High School and graduated from Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg Pennsylvania, Class of 1944. Following high school Oscar enlisted in the U.S. Navy until 1946. He then attended and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1950 and was the swimming coach at Ohio University from 1950-1954. In 1954, Oscar joined his father, Oscar, Sr. in the real estate business. Throughout the years, Oscar remained active in several real estate organizations and community groups including being an Honorary Life Member Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Kiwanis, Columbus Board of Zoning Adjustment, Columbus Recreation Commission, Columbus Board of Realtors, Columbus Athletic Club, and the Varsity “O” Alumni. Oscar will be greatly missed by his children, Patricia Thomas (Frederick D.) Fletcher and Oscar L. “Chip” (Erin Michelle) Thomas, III; grandchildren, Brian Thomas (Katie Gay) Kirkpatrick, Alice Marie (Geoffrey Ryan) Kershaw, Heath Lyon Thomas, and Luke Lee Thomas; great grandchildren, Jackson Thomas Kershaw and Jasper Thomas Kirkpatrick; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Memorial service will be held at 4 P.M. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where family will receive friends from 2 P.M. until time of service Saturday.
