Paul W. DeVore

Paul W. DeVore, age 96, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022. He was born on July 18, 1926 in Parkersburg, WV, to Eleanor Dunn DeVore and Harry DeVore. Paul graduated from Chillicothe High School in Ohio. While in school, Paul earned Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America. After graduation, he immediately enlisted in the Navy where he served two years in the South Pacific during World War ll. Using the Gl Bill, Paul attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he studied Education and Technology. He received his Master’s degree from Kent State University in the field of Industrial Education and earned his Ph.D. at Penn State, also in the field of Industrial Education. Paul began teaching Industrial Arts in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He moved on to teach at Grove City College in Grove City, PA. He then took a position at the State University of New York in Oswego and later moved to Morgantown, WV, where he became the Chair of the Industrial Education Department. During this time, he authored books and articles in the field of Industrial Education. While teaching in Grove City, he met and married Eleanor Jean Condron (Connie.) They were married on April 7, 1952, in Houston, PA by the Rev. Edwin Condron. Sadly, Connie and Paul experienced the deaths of three children, Baby Harry DeVore, Michelle Ann DeVore in 2003 and Phillip Charles DeVore in 2005. Paul was a licensed pilot, flying a Mooney. He flew to all 48 U.S. continental states and took a trip to promote general aviation in 2001. Paul and his wife Connie traveled widely, both internationally and in the United States. He supported his graduate students, contributed to professional organizations and was an annual participant of the Dunn Family Reunion. In 2004, Paul and Connie moved to Dublin, Ohio, where they resided at Friendship Village. Paul is warmly remembered by his wife, Eleanor C. DeVore (Connie); his brother, Art DeVore; his nephew, Stewart A. McFerran; nieces Martha McFerran Dahya (Babu) and Sarah McFerran-Cooley (Bob) along with great-niece Eva E. McFerran (Gabriel); cousin William Anthony DeVore (Emmy); and a host of Dunn Family cousins and relatives. A graveside service will be scheduled at a later date for the inurnment of Paul’s ashes at the New Marshfield, Ohio, cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST.See more See Less
