also known as Que "Queenie" Coates
Kenke was born in Lagos Nigeria in 1969 to her parents Florence O. Agbaje and Thomas Monite. Kenke went home to be with the Lord on October 15th 2018. She is survived by her son T.J. Coates, stepson Thomas Coates, her sister Dr. Tami F. Guitaud, her two brothers Adedapo and Ademola Sijuwade, and her paternal sister Florence Idowu.
From a young age Kenke had a take charge and survivor spirit. She could not be taken advantage of but was overly compassionate. She took on the responsibility of caring for her baby sister at the young age of 9. As a teenager she exemplified royalty and was affectionately named "Queen" by her sister Tami due to her frequent requests to keep order in the house.
With Queenie's entrepreneurial nature she opened "Fatima's Thing" in 1995 which later grew into "FT Wigs" consisting of three beauty supply stores which specialized in wigs and hair weaves. Her ambitious spirit overflowed so much that she encouraged everyone she knew to aspire for more and motivated them to do so. Que was known as a business woman, real estate mogul, aunt, god-mother, great friend and advisor.
Her greatest achievement was the birth of her son, the love of her life, and only biological child Thomas Coates Jr. In 2000 Queenie became "TJ's Mom" and she carried this out whole heartedly.
She was very fond of her brother in law Marvin Guitaud and beloved nieces, Tamara and Naomi Guitaud. She had many friends but only few held the title of best friend who are Natoka D. Williams and Iyesata Marsh. She considered Kevin Davis her BFF and he held a special place in her heart. She adored her God-children Johnna "Precious" Thurman and Shawney Boone, Lawrence Smith, and Velvet Washington. It was very easy for Queenie to care for anyone who cared for her or her loved ones, and her step son's significant other Tanoia Hill can attest to this. She loved her favorite cousin Michael Givens who was her confidant and another person she knew she could depend on. Queenie will be missed by a host of family and friends
Her heart was beyond caring and her generosity to the ones she loved was unmatched. The world lost a treasure and heaven gained a QUEEN.
