

Ray was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Lela R. Durfee and Carman N. Spiert. He spent his entire life growing up in the North end of Columbus. He graduated from North High School in 1962. He married his first wife, Susan Bump, and had two daughters Julie and Jennifer. He married his second wife, Becky Church, and they later divorced.
Ray was a retired Columbus Police Officer of 31 years, most of which was spent on the Freeway Patrol Division. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P). After retirement, he spent his time collecting and refurbishing cars and also helping people at Clear Water Pools.
Ray enjoyed life, family, and many friends, especially his early morning coffee clubs. It was often said that there wasn't a stranger that Ray didn't know. He will be missed but never forgotten.
Ray is survived by daughters Julie Spiert (Beaverton, Oregon) and Jennifer Vogler (Rock Port, Missouri); Granddaughters Riley and Rachel; sisters Rita and Lisa; and brother Don. He was preceded in death by brothers Roland and Norman; his mother Lela, and father Carman.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, from 4pm to 7pm. A Funeral Service will take place Thursday, December 2, at 10am, also at the funeral home. Masks will be available for those who would like one.
