Richard E. Ankrom

Richard E. Ankrom, 83, of Columbus, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 after a multi-fronted battle over his body and soul. He was born April 8, 1928 in Circleville, where he lived until he moved to New Holland to attend high school. He was a 1946 graduate and was the class President. Dick entered the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and was called into active duty where he was proud to reach the rank of Sergeant. Dick married Barbara Jean Tracey in 1950 and they settled in Columbus where Dick worked at Farm Bureau and attended night school at Bliss College. As a Certified Public Accountant, Dick was mostly self employed and was a former President of the Public Accountant Society. He attended Karl Road Baptist Church. Dick was a simple, habitual man who began every morning at Tee Jaye’s and Meijer. He was exceptionally honest, never met a stranger, had a sense of humor, and was a numbers man. Dick enjoyed bowling at Columbus Palace and Sequoia Lanes, watching OSU sports, and loved playing games with his grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; parents, Arthur and Ruth Ankrom; close cousin, Ruth Armack; and sister-in-law, Loretta Ankrom. Dick will be missed by his loving children, Patrick (Allison Wilson) Ankrom, Anita (Tom) Caridas, and Keith (Melissa Winesburg) Ankrom; grandchildren, Jason (Heather) Caridas, Julia (Chad) Snedegar, Jeffrey (Lydia) Caridas, Melissa (Brad) Beer, Michael (Amber) Ankrom, Alexa Ankrom, Jessica Winesburg, and Olivia and Danica Ankrom; great-grandchildren, Asher Beer, Rianna and Tyler Caridas, and John and Sydney Caridas; brother, Charles “Jack” Ankrom; and many close friends, including the morning crew at Tee Jaye’s. Family will receive friends Monday, May 16, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. and again Tuesday, May 17, 2011 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, OH.
