Richard Alan "Dickie"Biles born to the union of Jasper and Jeralean Frazier Biles on June 28th, 1946, in Columbus Ohio. He attended Columbus Public Schools and was an extremely gifted athlete competing in many sports: boxing, weightlifting, football, basketball and especially track and field.
Dickie set a record in 1960 at Linmoor Jr. High School in the 100-yard dash. The record stood for at least 50 years before being broken. In an unofficial track meet, Dickie tied Jesse Owens 1936 record of 9.6 in the 100-yard dash.
It was reported that at the tender age of four years old, Dickie went to Maryland Pool looked at the water, jumped in and swam the width of the pool. This talent came in handy several years later when he saved his little brother, Jeff from drowning.
Dickie had a sharp mind and enjoyed playing chess as well as being an entrepreneur, owning his own record shop on West Broad Street, RTR on Broad, in the early 2000's. But in his latter years, his greatest enjoyment was watching and encouraging his grandchildren to participate in sports.
