

Richard E. Lenhart “Dick”, 87, of Dunbar, WV and formerly of Columbus, OH, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at his home. He was born March 29, 1923 in New Castle, PA and was a 1940 graduate of Langley High School. He attended Washington and Jefferson College, where he played football, in Washington, PA and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army during college. Upon graduation, he gained employment at Nationwide Insurance, working in many locations, including Butler, PA, Clarksburg, WV, Charleston, WV, and finally Columbus, OH. He was the first program integrity officer that managed Medicare for Nationwide Insurance. Dick retired in 1988 after 39 years. He moved to Dunbar, WV shortly after his beloved wife, Gini passed away in 2001. Dick and Gini loved traveling to Maine together. He was a member of the Syria Shrine Temple in Pittsburgh, was a voracious reader, always up to date on current events, enjoyed taking photographs and was known for his great sense of humor. Dick was a sports fanatic always cheering for his Pittsburgh Steelers, OSU Buckeyes, WV Mountaineers, and Pittsburgh Panthers. Preceded in death by his parents, James and Marguerite Lenhart and wife, Virginia “Gini”. Dick will be missed by his children, Cheryl L. (Michael) Farrell, Pittsburgh, PA, Nancy B. Lenhart, Dunbar, WV, and Richard V. (Annette) Lenhart, Galloway, OH; grandchildren, Richard Alan and Kayla Marie Farrell and Connor and Chase Lenhart; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Jim, deceased) Ridgeway, Owings, MD and Merlyn (Bob) Sterrett, Library, PA; and brother-in-law, Robert (Marie) Long, Idaho Falls, ID. Dick’s family would like to express gratitude for the care he received while living in West Virginia from his daughter, Nancy, Carolyn Justice, and his extended family of friends. Family will receive friends Saturday, November 20, 2010 from 11am until the time of funeral service at 1pm at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Columbus (Just South of I-270). Entombment to follow at Kingwood Memorial Park.
